McAfee.com Offers eCharge Net Account as Alternative Secure Payment Option

McAfee.com customers now have option to use revolving credit to make secure purchases online with eChargeSM Net Account

SEATTLE and SUNNYVALE, CA - OCT. 23, 2000- -- eCharge Corporation, the global online payments company and McAfee.com (NASDAQ: MCAF) a leading security Application Service Provider (ASP) announced today that McAfee.com's customers can now charge their Web-based security services to their eChargeSM Net Account, a unique Internet purchasing solution offering consumers and merchants convenience unavailable in any other online payment method. By offering the eCharge Net Account, McAfee.com becomes the first Internet merchant to offer both eCharge Net Account and eChargeSM Phone, which allows consumers to charge digital goods and services to their telephone bill.

With the implementation of eCharge Net Account, McAfee.com customers may use this service to purchase McAfee.com's Clinic, Personal Firewall, Wireless Security Center and Internet Privacy Service. When a customer uses eCharge Net Account to make these purchases, they take advantage of eCharge digital certificates and proprietary encryption technology.

Consumers are able to sign up for the eCharge Net Account online, receive real-time approval and account statements, make payments to their account online, and have instant access to detailed account information. Once approved, a customer can use their eCharge Net Account immediately to purchase from eCharge merchant partners like McAfee.com and MP3.com. The public trial of eCharge Net Account began in September, and eCharge expects to sign additional merchants throughout the remainder of the public trial period, which will continue through the end of the year.

The eCharge Net Account provides Internet merchants an opportunity to reduce fraud, chargebacks and transaction expenses, while capturing incremental business and enhancing customer service. Using digital certificates and proprietary encryption technology, the eCharge Net Account is able to offer a 100 percent guarantee against fraudulent transactions for both merchants and consumers.
